Acoustic and energy-absorbing elastomeric materials are used in underwater acoustic applications for submarines and surface ships. Engineered Polymer Products (EPP) is a strategic partner with the U.S. Navy research community for the development and characterization of submarine hull treatment materials.
EPP offers a family of castable elastomeric materials that are essentially transparent to sound in water. These urethane materials can be used to encapsulate sensors in a tough protective coating as part of an acoustic composite structure or by itself as an acoustic window.
Material properties can be custom-tailored for variances such as frequency response and sound velocity to meet dynamic requirements of advanced surface and subsurface systems.
