Kidde Technologies, Inc., Honored by Boeing as Supplier of the Year
CHICAGO, March 24, 2005 – Kidde Technologies, Inc., provider of fire protection systems for all Boeing commercial airplanes, is one of 13 suppliers honored by The Boeing Company [NYSE:BA] last night during its Suppliers of the Year award ceremony in Newport Beach, Calif.
 
Kidde Technologies, Inc., is based in Wilson, N. C.. It received the Supplier of the Year Award in the Electronic, Hydraulic and Mechanical Systems category.
 
The Boeing Suppliers of the Year award recognizes suppliers from around the world who are working together with Boeing to design and build innovative products and services. These suppliers are selected for this award based on stringent performance criteria for quality, on-time delivery, cost and customer satisfaction. Kidde Technologies is the only supplier in North Carolina being honored by Boeing. Nearly 250 suppliers are in North Carolina to which Boeing paid more than $80 million for products and services in 2004.
 
Brent Ehmke, president of Kidde Technologies, said of the award:

It validates that the initiatives we undertook throughout the organization have made a difference to one of our most highly valued customers. Each of our employees owns a piece of this award for their efforts in making our systems more robust and for the continuous improvements that led to this outstanding performance recognition."
 
According to Jim Morris, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president Engineering and Manufacturing, Kidde made tremendous strides in process improvements in 2004. "KTI went the extra mile and committed itself to reaching top-level performance with Boeing," Morris said. "They significantly raised overall quality, value and responsiveness. We are very pleased to honor them with this important award."
 
KTI, a Kidde plc company, has an 80-year history providing fire protection and safety systems for civilian and military aircraft around the globe. They provide all Boeing commercial models with bleed leak detection systems and fire protection systems for the engine, auxiliary power unit, lavatories and cargo bay areas. Recently, the company was chosen to provide integrated fire protection systems for Boeing's newest plane – the 787 Dreamliner. In 2004, due to aggressive process improvements and their commitment to lean manufacturing, KTI provided Boeing with significant cost improvements. Their quality performance rating is 99.75; and their delivery performance rating is 97.3 percent.
 
The Boeing Supplier Management Process Council, with representation from procurement organizations from all Boeing business units, leads the effort to build a high-performing supplier network focused on first-time quality, on-time service and affordability.
